Kalifornia Jean Bar was founded in 2005 when Christy and Mike Hall decided that Reno needed a little bit of LA. Christy, who grew up splitting her time between LA and Gardnerville spent as much time on a horse as she did browsing the racks at I. Magnin. Ever since her hands were big enough to hold scissors and cut images from Vogue and Bazaar, Christy has been curating collections blending comfort and style. Mike is 100% Reno born and raised and grew up spending every free moment fishing, hiking, and skiing.
Christy and Mike met in 1992 and it was kismet. Together they were the consummate blend of city and country and began a small business importing and selling Australian hats while touring the country. After a couple of years on and off the road helping people keep their heads warm and stylish, they were ready to plant deeper roots in Reno. Their first store was a small accessories boutique which brought Christy back to LA for buying trips. The vision for an LA style denim bar in Reno sprang from these trips and frequent stops at Fred Segal. That was the birth of Kalifornia Jean Bar.
Mike’s love of the outdoors and Christy’s passion for fashion create a relaxed elegance evident in each piece selected for KJB. They have an equal commitment to sustainable lines and to supporting small businesses, both of which were prominently featured in KJB collections. Over the past 15 years, KJB has become a true family business with Brandon and Claire joining them in the store.
The connection between family, customers and community are the heart of KJB.
